The Project README has a short contributor's guide to get you started, and this post lists a few neat things you can do with git. This means we have a known reference point from which patches can be generated. If not, it's suggested you make your bugfixes based on the latest official masterwork release, and post a link to your changes here. If you're experienced with git, then you can fork the repo and send a pull request. Yes! So much yes! The issues list always has things which need doing. Masterwork 4e was identical to MWDF-SWP (master) when it was released. For the 4d release we had only a four hour lag time. MWDF-SWP gets upgraded to the latest Masterwork base shortly after it's released. The new Masterwork release may already contain the patches! 4d contained everything in MWDF-SWP with the exception of updates to DFHack. A new official release of Masterwork is out, but I want to use your patches! What do I do? You can see the commit logs to see when the last changes were made, and what they are.
